Tuskegee

Derek's first area is Tuskegee, Alabama. It is near the boarder of Georgia. It is a little south and east of Birmingham. Tuskegee is over 95% black and the average income is 18,000 dollars per year.
Derek's first companion is Elder Davis from American Fork. Derek has been on his mission for nearly two months. His Mission President and wife are President and Sister Tate. The mission home is in Birmingham. Derek is still waiting for an Alabama meal. He must have a had a really nice meal in the mission home at the beginning of his mission because he wrote home and said that the cooking in Alabama was better than his Mom's.
We actually haven't gotten a lot of detail about Alabama, or where Derek lives or what he eats or how he gets around. We have gotten some great testimony building and news of the gospel which really matter's but it would be nice to know a little more about Derek.

new blog

Hi everyone. Jerry had this great idea to set up a blog for Derek. We will be posting some of his letter's and pictures and some of our own feelings and observations during the time Derek is out on his mission. Jerry and I will be caring for this blog. Derek will only know about it and look at it like you, so that he can devote his time to his mission. We are hoping to turn this into a book at the end of Derek's mission, so that he has all of his memories in his book. Hopefully this will work out as we desire it to.
